Sad Vicious

Sad Vicious - Live at an undisclosed location! from AUX Projects on Vimeo.

"Sad Vicious" is one of the recent collaborative endeavors of Oakland artists Steuart Pittman and Scott V.. This name refers to a fictional contemporary rock band from the greater San Jose area. In our live performances, we improvise songs, lyrics, and details about our band, which in reality does not exist in any conventional form. We do not practice, write, or record songs together, and the improvisational element remains a focal point of this project. At all of our "shows," something is always going wrong; our keyboardist is running very late, our guitars refuse to tune, etc. While we strive to entertain and humor our audience, we also intend to illustrate the futility of the musically mediocre, the hopeless-yet-earnest masses who chase celebrity and acceptance through homegrown music projects.

While we've enjoyed performing as "Sad Vicious" in conventional music settings (i.e. coffee shops, open mic performances), we also feel indebted to the history of Happenings and experimental performance within the realm of fine art. We try to create a unremarkable concert experience which falls in line with ideas developed by Cage - and later Kaprow - regarding the banal or mundane. We feel that a concert doesn't necessarily need to be "good" to be interesting, and we aspire to continue generating bizarre and oddly melancholic concert experiences in new contexts.
